I just built this up over the weekend.
I had the frame left over from a previous build. The bike is/was a 2009 Schwinn Classic Al3. I bought two last year, still new in the box. One I built for my father, the other I bought for parts for a different build up that was for my mother. So, I had the frame set & fenders around, still in the wrappers. I finally decided to do something with it.
For a kind of bobber look, I installed the front fender on the rear rather than chop the rear up, in case I choose full fenders later. It's mounted just like it would be to the fork, just rotated forward about 90 degrees. I have picked up a DX feather chain guard, but until I can find a good paint match, I'll keep the OEM one.
I had a set of Electra wheels that I bought because I liked them, but didn't yet have a use for. But they're just about the exact color of the pinstripe accent on this frame. I bought a NOS Shimano Click Stick on eBay, and adapted it to the Nexus hub assy.
The frame looks like a conventional cantilever, but it's aluminum. But all of the tube diameters are larger than typical. To maintain proportions, the frame is a little taller and longer than normal, I think. But I couldn't mount the shifter to the top tube or down tube, but I was able to put it on the canti tube with a rubber shim around the tube. Seems to be solid enough, and I could run the cable under the tube all the way to the hub.
I also used Velo Orange handle bars and wrapped them with grass-green cloth bar tape. Amber shellac made for a nice dark green. I might change the saddle out yet, though. The stock one doesn't really fit the look that well. The other thing I haven't decided on yet is what to do with the canti bosses on the fork. I don't want to run the V-brake for astetic reasons, but the bosses don't unthread. I might still use them for mounting headlights somehow.
