Well challenging for me anyhow. I picked up this schwinn rust bucket for the springer fork. I finally dug it out and was questioning the strange brakes and brackets and springs all over.....
Then I noticed the front hub has a grease port so I clean off the quarter inch of grime to find it's a New Departure D front hub??
So now I'm very confused because I have no idea what this is. I assumed it wasn't terribly old because the girls bike I picked it up on had a 3 speed hub. I pull the rusty beast out of the garage and realize the hub is not original, is a Hercules B type 4 on an English sized rim.
So I figure I run the serial number and pull up a catalog and solve this puzzle.....but no serial number???? And yes I checked the BB, dropouts, head tube and seat tube. So what do I have here?
Note: The steering tube on the fork and the frames paint match so it's a Franken bike but the fork and frame match. Also the fender holes on the rear dropouts are larger than they usually are.
Color seems to be dark blue aqua red with white striping.
Any thoughts?
