I just bought a 55 Schwinn corvette from a friend. It was in a garage fire which caused all of the plastic and rubber parts on the bike to melt. It needs new brake and shift lever cable. It is a 3 speed and the serial dates it to 1955.It has a headlight, taillight and generator. It also has a BF Goodrich badge instead of a Schwinn one. My question is, is it worth restoring and where is a good place to find the parts to do so.Also what is the significance of the BF Goodrich badge? I paid 25 bucks for it.

You did good. Those stainless steel fenders are worth $25. It also has an older style B1 seat used on 50's ballooners that looks restorable. BF Goodrich made tires for Schwinn and Schwinn made bikes in return with BFG badges for them to sell at their tire stores. Even though it says BFG, it's a 100% Schwinn built bike. You can get parts right here on the forum in the WANTED section. If that thing got real hot in a fire, I'd replace all the bearings in the crank and headset and get different hubs just in case the heat softened the bearings. Gary
