schwinn double bar ????

i bought this old schwinn at an estate auction for cheap. like i need another bike but this one had caught my eye it was rough beat up painted over but that style frame i had never had one or seen one before it was a schwinn straight bar but it has double bars seiral # E024162 can any body give some info on this type of frame was it a schwinn flop i cant say that i have seen them before or is it a rare find any help would be great thanks....

Hey 62HotRod...nice score.As I understand it,Schwinn built 2 versions of this frame...one like yours & one where the two "underbars" curved
all the way down to the chain stays.They say to check all the welds at the seat post tube as this was the weak link...at least that's what I've
been told as I have never owned one.I think they're a cool frame though...Good Luck with it...Pappy 8)
 
Probably a '60 Tornado, they introduced that frame with that model in 1958. Also used on some Flying Stars during that era, as well as the Skipper. In 62, they introduced the Typhoon, with the other variation of this frame for one year only. Though, there ARE some Typhoons with the older style frame, and a couple of the other models with the 'phoon frame. I've seen 'em!! -Adam
