I just picked up my first set of amber Schwinn grips. Wow! These are cool!

I haven't ever seen them in amber. Never even knew they existed.

They came in on a 64 Traveler. Any idea what years they were made?

i know they where called either jelly or jello grips, early 60s was the first time id seen them as an accessory item, but i keep getting called out on the pair i have, seems the coppertone stingray repop had grips about the same color. but i know ive seen red "jelly" grips before and i know blue and green are out there too.

forgot to mention the guy i bought mine from had an original schwinn box full so im pretty sure the guy was legit on these being an original accessory and has always had lots of NOS stuff in the past.

Very cool! Those look like you should be able to find some dinosaur DNA from a dead mosquito in those cool amber grips...

COOL!

The Schwinn snobs call them chubbie style grips, opposed to slimline grips.

Cherish them as much as I do my Esso Tiger Head grips.(yeah they''re in a Shrine now)heh.

They're made to match the Coppertone bikes. I have a set I put on my 65 Collegiate.

Originally most of the bikes that were Coppertone, which was virtually every model at
one time or another, came with white grips. Very few came with coppertone
matching grips though you will find them on some of the higher end bikes.

The Collegiates came with black grips, and I hated the look. I thought it looked
wrong. A set of copper chubby grips fixed it right up.

They are not easy to find and not offered reproduction, so if you found a set you
got something quite rare.

Travelers were high end bikes. They came with a full complement of equipment so
you wouldn't have to accessorize with anything- they had a bag under the seat,
light and generator, and all the nice parts like bow pedals, stainless fenders, and
deluxe seats.

Nice touring bike if you can find one that's decent.
