Schwinn frame tire & wheel ?

Hello everyone, new to the hobby
I have a 1952 Schwinn straight bar frame I want to rat out, does anyone know if the Felt 24" wheels with Thick brick tires will fit? Or can someone explain what I need to measure?
Also want to use the Monark springer forks and not sure if I need type 1 or type 2 and what I would need to measure to use the 24" rims and thick bricks. Thanks

its been my experience that Schwinn frames dont accept 3" wide tires without some modification , cant help you on the fork.

I fit a 24x3 Kenda Flame on a 1950 Schwinn frame on the rear and a 26x3 in the front fork.

I seen a post on here where someone had 26x57mm wheels on a Schwinn with I belive 26x2.125 tires, front and back.
Now I just have to decide on the 50mm felt wheels or the 57mm 3G wheels..

I'm still undecided on forks though, I really like the Abraham Linkage forks but they seem to be out of stock, I do have a nice Schwinn springer from the 50's but I wanted to use those on my wife's bike.

I really like the Felt wheels. I have a set of the 26" 50 mm rims on a Felt cruiser and they are killer. For me, the combination of a classic drop-center style rim, big 12 gauge spokes, and the front hi-flange 5 spoke hub is just so much classier than the 3G wheels. The felt wheels give you a custum look without betraying the look of an antique bike. The 3G wheels are thoroughly modern, but still really cool.

If your Schwinn won't take a 3 inch wide tire, I would really look at the 26 inch Felt or 3G wheels. When you mount a 26 x 2.125 tire on such a wide rim, it fills out to about 2.5 inches wide. There are some 26 x 2.35 tires out there (Schwalbe Fat Frank and Bontrager Solana to name a couple) That would fill out even wider.

I have couple early 50's dx frames 24in thick bricks.
1 with a Schwinn springer. I used flat washers between
hub and fork works great. I've seen some forks dented
by the tire to make the tire work. CWC springer work great.

Hey undecider I read that post a couple days ago and was all over the net looking for them, found them a couple different places for around $155.Was gonna hold out for the Felt Forks but it looks like the sunlite will work for 3"

I put a Felt 2.125" Circuit tire on a 3G 57mm rim, which filled the tire out to a full 2.5". That, in a balloon tire Schwinn Ashtabula fork just fit, with maybe an 1/8" on either side. It was sort of equivalent to putting a balloon tire (on a normal rim) on a middleweight fork. Are all of the balloon-tire era Schwinn flat blade forks the same width, or are there variations? If that later, then you'd have to pay attention to which you've got.

Thanks for posting pic's expjawa yes that's as a tight fit for sure. Im hoping to use springer forks, do you have more clearance on the rear? Or is it also a tight fit. Thanks

Well, like I said above, the frame is a Columbia, so it doesn't really help you. But to answer the question, no, there wasn't much more room there. I put a 24x3 Berm Master on a 57mm rim on, but it required a bit of work to get it to fit. This is what it looked like before I spread the stays some:

It would marginally clear between the knobs, but not over them. I uses a small scissors jack to cold form the chain and seat stays, with a bare hub bolted into the drop outs to keep the rear in place.

I never found a good picture of the clearances. But here is my bike with the 24x3 and 26x3.

I'm thinking more than likely I'm gonna go with the 26" felt wheels when they become available, and 26x2.125 tires. Then I'll see what kind of/if any problems I run into.

BigE , Rear clearance no problem at all. But what you'll
find is the chain might rub. I Trued the wheel the tires
are not perfect straight after inflated. So the chain might
rub. I found that out on cream thick bricks. Ride and wipe down. That's after shimming the 64 tooth sprocket 1/4 inch to the right. Rear sprocket I used a lucky seven. Great beach cruiser. Ormand beach, Fla.

I just got a sunlite, i am happy for the $133.00 I paid at green canyon outfitters. Only thing I changed was, added teflon washers between the links and forks.
To shave tires, use an angle grinder and sand the tire while spinning. Belt sander works also!
Wear old clothing, goggles, do outdoors unless you live down wind of a drag strip!
