Good idea, except the channel locks will scratch your paint job. Here's another way that will save your paint. Gary

The copper piece looks a little like a modified cable guide.

Copper water pipe. I cut it off of a roll and the end was already flared. Gary

Thanks for the tip! I'm gonna try this on my current build. I need to remove a kickstand from one Schwinn and put it on another Schwinn frame then shorten it.
