Just bought a '72 Schwinn Suburban. This old bike rides great...Anyone on here have one of these bikes? Your opinion on these old Schwinn lightweights?

I have a few of the different Schwinn light weights and really like them. I love the tall frames (I'm 6'5 ) and you can still find them at reasonable prices with lots of old parts available. This is the I bought this weekend from the original owner.

My 1st 10 speed was a Suburban. In 1971 I rode around Delaware Bay on it. Went from New Castle, DE, got a ride over the Memorial Bridge, worked my way to Vineland, NJ and then to Estelle Manor, where my mom lived. Stayed there a few days, then rode to Cape May. Stayed there a few days, then took the ferry to Lewes, DE and rode up to Dover. Stayed for one night, then rode back to New Castle. The last day's ride was the worst ever... I was eaten alive by the greenhead flies as I traveled the coastal marshes along the Delaware River. Escaped them by going inland and literally dragging the bike on Route 13 from Smyrna to St. Georges because the shoulder was all sand. The weight of the bike and the 40 pounds of camping equipment kept breaking through the sand crust when I tried to ride. Indeed, it was a memorable ride during which the bike performed perfectly.

Nice job. I know these old Schwinns are heavy but I think they look nice and I really like how they ride.

My 10 speed had the drop bars on it but I changed to the touring bars...like the more upright riding position.
