Sears Spaceliner Springer..

I'd like to build a custom using this springer. They were middleweights..but I'd like to go balloon. Does anyone know if the fork will fit a different frame..26"...??Thanks..JV

As long as the steerer tube is the correct length it will work. I think the 26" spaceliner has about a 6-3/4" steerer tube length which is pretty standard.

Thanks..I'm new to bikes..Just finishing a couple MINIBIKES for my grandsons..and thought NoW a Phanton..and a custom !!..Some of the gallery bikes are amazing..and I thought this would be cheaper than MiniBikes !!..I'll measure my '95 Phantom frame..ANY help would be appreciated..JV

Good luck with the projects, should be cheaper than a minibike but that depends on how carried away you get :mrgreen:
A springer from a 26" spaceliner should bolt on to your 95 phantom without any modification.

I'll probably do like everyboby.."One more won't hurt " !!!..I measured my Phantom neck.It's 6 inches from edge of cup to edge of cup. The SEARS I'm considering is 6 3/16 from the FLAT of the fork to the end of the threads..I just dont Know...J

DOH!! I am full of crap ... again :roll:
I just measured my spaceliner and I was wrong about the steerer tube length. It is shorter than I thought so the sears fork won't fit on the phantom frame without some mods. The steerer tube on the fork needs to be long enough to accomodate the head tube length from the frame plus the total stack height of the headset. Ususally the stack height is around 7/8" to 1-1/8" total.

Thanks..Since SEARS did not actually build their bikes..Is there another frame ..balloon..that would take the fork..OR..how about making a neck to fit the fork ?

extending the steerer tube is prolly the easiest way to do it..

As a last resort you can also trim the headtube on the frame. Thats if you don't care about hacking the frame, and you make the cut very accurately.

They also used the "rat trap" springers on their Flightliner line of bikes. That is what I used in my head to head build off with Double Nickle. You can squeeze balloon tires into the frame, I had to ditch the fenders though.

Welding and fabrication is not a problem. From what I can figure..the fork tube..(Steerer ?) needs to be lengthened..Which brings up the question of cups and bearings ?..I guess the only way to do it is..Just jump in and see what happens..What's the WORST that could happen ? !!!!!
