Can anybody help me with some info on this seat? It came off of a '58 Schwinn I picked up a while back. I have never seen one before and want to learn a little bit before I decide what to do with it. It is a Mesenger seat with a Troxel carrage bolt on the clamp. The "sissy bar" for lack of a better term comes up under the seat and bends 90* out the back. Any info would help.

i was thinking mesinger the second i saw it. ive seen one up close, sat on it, really cool lookin and quite comfy.i think its an early version of a banana seat? either way id hang on to it, since how rarely you see them.

The top isn't torn, but the paint has all flaked off. Repaint, recover, or leave it be?

leave it be. those mesinger seats have there own special vinyl cover, irreplaceable(far as i know), unless you make a mold of a mint one and reproduce them.

I think the color is in the vinyl, someone probably painted it. I would give it a good scrubbing and leave it, maybe make a cover for it.
