Looking to put this 2005 Mongoose Hoop D back on the road. Front wheel had a bit of a drag to it when it happened into the corral. Looks like it's been shot once with a BB gun

Now it will move into the shop and then the stable, trying to figure out what to do with it.

First up, try to tear down the hubs and grease them up. Probably not take the wheels apart and spray bomb flat black on the 36h Sun Rhyno Lite on the back and 48h Sun DitchWitch on the front. Neither are bent, which surprised me.

Repaint the bars, regrease the head tube races. Paint both flat black.

Need to figure out what chain to put with the combo.

No plans to add brakes. They just slow you down. And maybe a couple other mods to fit the thread name.

Tear down day. Took it inside been raining.

Stopped for a bit, scrubbed it down with a blue scrubbing and SoS pad.

May sand it with some 1500 grit to take clean up the staining.

Picked a transparent black as a base coat as soon as it's a sunny, will go from chromoly colored to Black chrome. Will overlay with gloss clear engine or wheel paint

Sounds like you've got a solid plan for that Mongoose! What brand is that spray paint? I've seen that style of can before, but I don't recall the brand. Seems like a lot of guys here use that brand, but I don't see much of it in stores.

That's a can of Montana Gold - Mystic Black. I picked it up on Amazon. Could only find transparent black plastic tail light lense paint around here.

Yes, I couldda picked up some transparent black airbrush paint at the art store, and fired up the airbrush, but i think the spray can will lay it on faster and more evenly on the frame.

Awesome, thanks! Reason I asked is because it seems like there are more spray can metallic colors available from Montana Gold than other paint manufacturers, and I wanted to try them out.

No shame in using rattle can paint!

Some progress.

Wheels cleaned up well. Not gonna paint them. Will touch them up a bit though. Have some spoke work todo to the rear and front hub needs attention.

Painted. A little Iffy on the Montana gold. Kept getting wet tip. Still layed down pretty decent.

The clear melted it in a bit, so not a huge deal.

Between taxes and planning a trip for my daughter's graduation the budget for this build is in the negative after the bearings.

So took some sun bleached yellow Kontacts from an old build

And some high temp plastic paint that I had on the shelf.

These should work well. Will need to plan a downhill cement ride to bring out the directional yellow knobs before final pics.

That should look really cool, I like that idea!

Reminds me of BFG Scorchers, those tires you could "autograph" the pavement with. I'm sure police love em too

Dug some pedals out of a box. Been looking for these for a few days and finally found them yesterday.

Nice solid pedals. Will be using the long cranks after calculating the 32x9 gear ratio. That, and the one I had chosen was stripped out on one pedal. Awaiting weather to cooperate to put a fresh coat of paint on the crank and pedals.
