Okay, finally an update, I've been looking for a fork to replace the bent one
Went to the 3rd bike shop with used parts and found one that should work
One-on-One has such a crazy "junkyard" in the basement

I looked through about 30 forks and most were MTB and one older but bent
So much stuff down there so had to step back and glance around

Found a Columbus (?1) fork laying on a shelf all by itself
The threaded part is a about an inch long, but the threads go down far enough so it should work
The mech Gary gave me a good deal on it when I told him what it was going on
and I would have to show him when done , Thanks Bud!

He said something about it having Columbus tubes (assuming that is good)
It has lugs, a dove and bear :lol:

Think I'll have to try some highlights on it

Was thinking about using the truss rods (the only other parts not too bent)
But it doubles the weight of the fork setup (Columbus is only 1.5 lbs )
Guess I'll mock it up and look

Went for a Ride with RustyK last Thursday and I really like his path racer
Thinking I going to try for a blend of these two bikes

Seat post work comes next, my friend from work is going to try to teach me how to weld aluminum :roll:

That is one cool fork. I think it would look cool with the truss rods.

Are you going to have a skinning tire up front?

Columbus tubing will get you some road bike street cred :wink: .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Tubing

Good to see another path racer getting built. I've been checking out some Chiossi builds for inspiration. And yes, that fork is pretty sweet.

Going skinny up front, easier rolling for a path racer, fatter in back for style

You know when I saw your Path Racer sub build, I changed my build Machine Age Victim
Not sure mine is considered a lightweight like your sub build though
The chain ring on your bike is CRAZY, want to see how fast you can go
Those Chiossi bikes are beautiful and inspirational

I think I've settled on the Shelby now, I save the original frame for some other time

I'm so sorry to hear you're not going to build this year, I've miss your innovation
I'm hoping to get that truss rods working

Small update, things are going slow
Trying to find a used JIS square taper crank set but no luck so far
I found my 52 tooth 130 BCD that will fit on an Origin 8 crank set (origin 8 44T ring on right)
Fall back is to buy one but I'm not there yet

Decided to swap out the original aluminum stem(on the left) for one that will extend higher
Also fits the fork tighter and maybe looks cooler

The truss rods are too heavy for me to justify them
So I been looking into making something that's more for looks than structural

Had 2 BB conversion types, the black one fits more snug
but I'm still going to have to pseudo knurl the frame to make it fit right but it should work
Will size up the BB width when I find the right crankset

Found a tall headset at Velo Orange that may eliminate cutting the threads on the fork (41mm tall)

Very excited to see you in the build off again this year. Your Spaceliner is the inspiration for my bike. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I really love the blend of old and new.

Steel brake line is lighter and pretty easy to work with. Wooden dowel truss rods were made last year, so there's an idea. Thin aluminum tubing can be found at hardware stores and hobby shops.

The Columbus fork is awesome. I had a bike frame made from Columbus tubing (1989 Schwinn Prelude) but I've never seen a fork "branded" Columbus like that, the bear must be the actual fork brand, but I'm lost on that.

Well I got a possible old timee seat route today at the swap meet
Was thinking my fall back would be the Cannondale saddle (which is pretty comfortable)
But wanted more path racer style like RustyK's, so I picked this spring frame up

Thinking I could make a narrow pan or broken-in leather surface for it
Not sure I can do without the top brace but would like to make it comfortable and mount modern

Also not sure how wacky the very long seat will look jacked way above the frame
Anyway, I'll take a closer look when I get back from Portland

Small update MAV,

Stripped down the Columbus fork only to find chrome underneath (right side of pic)
I'm really going to have to polish the steel to make it match somewhat

I've got a super secret side project (left side of pic) I have to get done in a couple weeks
So my build off bike will be more minimalized than before
Need to bite the bullet and buy a crank set at my LBS then have at it

Got some 3/4" solid aluminum round bar for the seat post so that's at least here now

The bike will get done and it will be great for what I need it for (path racing baby!)
But it may not be too fancy...

Well I hinted about a side build earlier, so here is the background
This was going ot be my original build off bike but it wasn't going to work for me
You may know that my Great Nephew recently joined up "JerimiahIsRad"
But he hasn't posted much, so He's arriving today from Oregon and his Bday was July1

My Wife found a prewar 24" Goodyear Hi-Way Patrol bike on CL
So we hatched a plan to build it for his Bday

I'll let J post his own build thread later but I couldn't wait any longer :lol:
I can't wait to see his face when he gets "Flat Black and White"
Have plans to let him ride it a bit and find out what we can swap in/out yet
Have more parts to put on but he can ride it this way for a while

Had to put the seat post higher for a shakedown ride last night

I'll help J post details and ride shots on his own build thread, keep your eyes open for that

Now I can concentrate on getting more work done on my bike
Tried a Origin 8 SS crank set with 107mm BB but it didn't work out so well
Sure enough (once I bought that) I found what I was looking for (a lightweight shimano)
Had to use a FSA 117mm BB to clear the non chainring crank but now can move forward
Got painting to get done, all black drive train

More progress updates coming quicker (due to deadline :lol: )
