I wanted some grips to sort of match the colour of my Brooks B66 saddle in honey colour. Velo-Orange sells some comfy grips with a retro basket-weave pattern that they claim are formulated to match the Brooks in honey. Well in real life they don't come close and of course they have no patina so didn't go with the look I was going for.

Years ago I used to shellac cork or cloth tape on handlebars so I mixed up a few flakes of amber shellac and put three coats on the rubber grips. The colour darkened nicely and matches the Brooks better now. Also it is a bit thicker and darker in the recessed areas making it look like it has a bit of age. I'll ride them for a bit and see how they look. I meat need to knock down the sheen a bit.

Before photo. The Brooks was a bit lighter here as it was brand new.
