shifters and derailers... HELP

Will I have any problems using a derailer from a six speed cruiser on my rrbbo4 bike with a 5 speed rear wheel and a 5 speed indexed shifter? I've never screwed around with derailers...

since the der isn't indexed, I'm thinking once you set the upper and lower limits to be inline with the 5 speed top and bottom cogs, it should index to the 5 cogs. Should.

If the cog sizes on the 5 speed are not beyond the derailleur's size limits(i.e., too big) and the adjusting screws long enough, should is the right word.

ah, yes, good point. the cage of the derailleur has to be long enough to accept the big gear on the cluster.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll have to head back to the inlaws and grab the derailer off the donor bike just to hedge my bets...
