Shimano 3 speed stick shift

I picked up a Shimano 3 speed stick for my ...NEXT... build, to go with the SA RXL-RD3 gears/drum brake I got earlier...and it looks brand new. It's NOS, but still, it really does look brand new. This may be too pretty to cut up. Can anyone ID this for me? What year and what bike? These pictures are from the 'net, not the actual unit I have, but it is the same unit.

Once you get the piece in your hands, might be able to find a date code. Unfortunately, the system began in 76, so if it's older, I don't know
