My boss wants me to convert his Dyno Mooneyes to multi-speed for him. I recommended the Nexus system since it won't mess with the frame (will it?) and won't require caliper brakes.

As far as gearing, what's the difference between 3 and 7 speeds? Meaning, is the high and low gears the same, there are just more options in between for the 7 speed? He's having trouble going up hills with the single speed coaster, and that's what's driving this change. Will 3 speed be sufficient, or what does the 7 speed do for him?

Also, other than a hub and shifter, what will I need for the conversion?

He wants some sort of suicide shifter for the cool factor, so I'm going to have to figure out that as well.

You also need to consider rear hub size. Most of the time the 3 speeds will fin without any issues, but once you start getting into the 7 speeds it can be a tighter squeeze.

I personally think 3 speeds is perfect for a cruiser.

Can anyone dumb down what the 186% means? I have no idea.

Also, what is a "Roller Brake"? Same as a Coaster?

Sorry, that is the over gain ratio. That is the difference between 1st and 3rd gears.

Roller brake is a hand operated brake. It needs a brake lever on the handle bars.

Curious CRASH how this panned out.....

Was the axle width on the Nexus the same or did you have to get the frame to fit?
