I've seen masterful work performed here, often achieved with the sketchy-est of tools. (I'm looking at you, CRASH.) This month's discovery promises to put a bit of that awkward behavior to rest. Below, you'll see a small gadget that GM auto mechanics have been using for decades to install slightly warped exhaust manifolds on small-block Chevys. It's little more than a barrel nut with left-hand threads cut on one side, but I can hardly think of a better, more elegant solution for spreading a frame, in just the right places, to gain that smidgen of tire clearance. Unmodified, the device offers a range between 2 7/8 to 4 5/8 inches and can be bought at most auto parts stores for around $10 bucks.
