I have 2 skip tooth bikes that need chains......I ran into a local guy the other day who was saying you can use a regular 1/8 chain(?) and it will work......is this true?
I have bought 2 skiptooth chains and when I was cleaning and oiling them they both just fell apart into pieces. I have spent more on chains than I did for the bikes combined
I've purchased many skiptooth chains for my older bikes, and I'd say 1 in 6 turn out to be bad in some way. Usually they're stretched out. This includes the most expensive buy, a block chain.
It's a part of the cost of vintage rides, but man, I love skiptooth! It's a cool touch that makes it different from most other bikes.
Your Hawthorne fork is a little different than the one I used on Flexy, but it's operation should be about the same. The main fork section is only a guide and doesn't hold the fork. The fork is held by a combo of the short rocker/pivot arms and the springer fork itself. You probably need some spacers as well. I'll try to find the section of my build thread that showed it in decent detail.
Also, I think that the rocker/pivot arms should go on the inside of the main fork blades.
Here is what I have for attaching the front wheel....unfortunately, all I have is one side (all I can find ) So I am going to see if I can jerry rig the other side....unless someone has a matching pair they are willing to sell? I am sure I paid to much for this single side....Supply and demand dictates the price I am told!
