I took it to mean they're supposed to antique, collectible, not users.
 
These would be for a show bike..that is never ridden.

Which I suppose is really no different than someone spending $4000 on a set of wheels for a show car that is never driven.

did bmx have 26" tires back in the 80? i remeMber seeing 24" bmx, but those things looked monsterous as is.

Yeah...they made 26" BMX cruisers back in the 70s and 80s.

They are like gold right now because all the late 30 and 40 year old guys want
to relive the glory days and do it on a bike that they can actually ride. :D
