The small amount of rear travel in my KHS soft tail really helped on my descent down the National Trail in the South Mountains in Phoenix. I live in the Houston area now, where rear suspension is not as necessary. In fact, the Houston area trails are great for riding klunkers (cruiser based, pre-mountain bikes).
I will have to take my soft tail to the Hill Country some time to make use of the rear suspension.

Pickle - Here is my klunker- A 90's Mongoose Zuma with drum brakes at both ends and an axle mounted derailleur. Since this pic was taken, I have added handlebars with more rise and ditched the suspension seat post.
