I acquired an old 60s Murray/Hawthorne bike, and the tires are some 80s mt bike tires that look really old & mediocre, so I want to replace them. The tires aren't flat, the tubes have no nozzle, they feel solid and weigh a ton. How do I get these tires & tubes off? hacksaw? blowtorch?

I just went through this my self , i took a regular hand saw and cut right down till i got to the rim then popped the bead up with a screwdriver and clipped with some wire cutters on both sides , then peeled it rite off. you gotta Man handle those thing's !

I had to remove a set of those solid inner tubes from a bmx wheelset, but I didn't want to ruin the tires. I took an old screwdriver and bent the tip slightly, and then filed down the sharp edges. I basically made a big tire lever and it worked fine. Just pry up the one side of the tire and pull the solid tube out.

Soak for an hour in hot water and they come right off without damaging it, just watch for ant nests! My last one had a whole bunch in it.

The evil thing should be destroyed. :x

I only try to save them because local drunks who come to me every weekend to fix their bike after they crash it into something or run over something and blow a tire love them. Never get a flat again $20 each installed.

+1 on this technique.

After one hacksaw, 2 flat blade screwdrivers, 1 small bolt cutter, a lot of elbow grease, and a few colorful metaphors, I finally got them off. The good news is that should I ever need to wrestle an anaconda, I will have some practice under my belt. What are these things? A premolded inner foam, or the evil ancestor of slime?

(oh, I found some abandoned wasp nests inside the tires)

8) Good For you !, told you just man handle those Bad Bears !! :x
