Some simple bicycle questions.. ??

Hi all,

I'm not too knowledgeable on the building/putting together of old bicycles yet; perhaps you could help with these simple (yet complex to me) questions.

I plan to put 26" fenders on a 24" frame with 24" wheels - aside from them being a bit longer do you supose they would look ..awful? and do you think there would be a larger gap between the fender and the tire?

Also, how hard is it to find nice chrome 24" wheels, and do they make creme, solid white, or red colored 24" balloon tires?

I had not realized the frame I seek only comes 24", this is of course after finding 26" wheels, tires, fenders etc. So I am hoping I can use the 26" fenders on this bicycle.

Hi that is what I had hoped however I don't think the tires will clear the forks or even fenders. It is an aluminum prewar frame.

Hey Paul, I dont think your going to like the 26" fenders with 24" wheels, there will likely be a lot of uneven daylight between the fenders and tires, 26" fenders arent just longer, they have a bigger radius. mounting the fenders in the frame might even be a chore in itself.

Dont know of any brick red tires or white tires either in 24" though they may be out there.

Thanks so much for the help. I apologize for my lack of even the most common bike building knowledge. I see on ebay colored 24" tires, but they look to me thin..and even the listing says road tires, so I don't believe they would look the same as balloon tires. I wish there were a way (other than modifying the frame, which I refuse to do, and its aluminum) to run standard 26" wheels and tires on it. Hmm.

Seems I am too late for those wheels too (they have been sold), ah just my luck !

I think your best bet is to get 26' wheels this way your fenders will fit and you can get your colored tires from HERE :wink:

If the bike is a Silver King I've seen guys put 26" rims on it but fenderless as there isn't enough room. I think 26" fenders with 24" rims would look terrible if it would even work.
