I picked up this 1958 Schwinn racer on the local classifieds a few weeks ago for $25. The wheels were pretty shot, but I figured it would be fun to mess around with.

I got it all broken down, degreased, polished, and waxed. It was surprisingly easy to take a part and the paint is shinier than I thought it would be. I picked up a pair of Continental retro ride tires in 26x2”. They fit, but there’s not much spare room. Just waiting for wheels to get here and then I’ll start putting it back together.

I like a diamond build every once in a while, they are good challenge. Though the parts usually do end up on other bikes.

Got my wheels in from @ind-chuckz and got t he tires mounted. I haven’t had a chance to get the rest of the parts polished up yet.

I have always thought the front fenders on these are a little weird. However, I think they look better as a bobbed fender on the rear.

I think this one is pretty much done. I’ll take some better pictures in the next couple of days. It rides super smooth as is just a really solid rider. I don’t think it’ll stay around too long though, it’s way to small for my 6’2” body.

I like the fork trusses better than the headlight if you have to choose.

I like the trusses too, but they need to be shortened. I think this bike is going to my nephew and the truss rods will go to a different frame and I'll trim them for that frame.

I totally agree. I’ve used them on the rear of a few of my 26” builds. Great look. Looks like a blast to ride.
