I picked this bike up at the Dudley swap meet last fall for 85 bucks

it was mostly complete but really rusty and both pedals were broken. Strange thing is the frame was chrome plated under what I'm pretty sure was the original paint, were all painted spaceliners like this? Anyway a couple days with a wire wheel and some steel wool and I had this
umyde4uz.jpg
some wood bleach and simple green got all the small parts shiny

and then came nasty evil winter, lots of overtime, ice racing and no ambition to work in the cold cold cellar. Then it got back burnered for my Christmas present bike and then the build off bike and sat just like that til this weekend. I had to work Friday night but got up early Saturday to sand prime and paint, my least favorite part of bike building!! All the chrome parts were rusty so I painted what was chrome either silver or metallic black. Here's the start of reassembly

when I ordered the handlebars I wasn't really paying attention so I got bars with a 7/8 center luckily I had a bmx stem in the parts pile :) a quick trip to the hardware store for some black button head Allen bolts to replace the fender and rack rivets I drilled out and here she is

I only had time for a 5 minute test ride before work

but I think it's mostly done

Joel, most excellent job:thumbsup:,nice bike candy, maybe if you ever get down this way I'll get mine outta the mothballs and we bike up some mileage.I run mine with a "Big Mo" sprocket and Bendix 2 speed like my Torpedo and is scary fast:crazy:!

Joel, here's a couple pics of my SL,put a set of wings on it and she'll fly with the sprocket and 2 speed.I really like the curves of the Spaceliner frame, very cool. :cool2: Mabey we can get a few more people down here for a Spaceliner or Flightliner pub crawl:rolleyes:

To quote the Wolverine's brother upon first seeing his claws... "Ew, Shiny!"
Some nice bikes here, Spaceliners ain't my cup of tea, but I still appreciate the futuristic design when you consider when these were produced.

You guy's should get your Spaceliners (and anybody else who has one) and put on some green spandex and then hit Roswell for the UFO fest... that would be an over the top cool pic!

Hey... Nah, nah! If you ain't going all the way (green spandex) what's the point of taking a photo...:agree:
Alright, maybe if everybody wears Spook ears?!

Hey Joel! After seeing your comment on my thread I had to check your bike out. Looks great! Nice resto-mod! How long did you soak the parts in wood bleach for?

Another Grand Slam Joel! That Space Liner is awesome; your choice of color and perseverance has paid off Big Time – well done! A black and silver Space Liner – now how :cool2: is that!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I've got a rat trap for it but it needs work and I have to find the correct front fender and brace for it, or modify the ones I've got so I guess it's not done yet...
