I have purchased motorized bike parts made from this guy and they are TOP NOTCH and his service has always been documented as outstanding !! If I had the extra money I would surely have one of his frames.

Wow, those are really cool. It's too bad that here in NYS, motorized bicycles are illegal to operate (with the exception of a small number of "approved" manufacturers, like Whizzer) and can't be used anywhere in public. There would essentially be no place I could ride something like this... :(

I've been perving on these things for a while now. a little pricey, but the rep is good, and everything looks to be well-finished and quality.. I've been trying to think of a good way to mount the motor-drive sprocket to the rear wheel, just for something to think about when i'm bored. Sportsman's solution is the best i've seen so far, but it still seems to be a strain on the spokes. Someone needs to make a dedicated hub for these things....

If only i had the spare cash, i'd love to build one. How do y'all think they'd perform with a rigid front end?

The 2 sportsman sprocket adapters that I have do not contact the spokes at all. I suppose there is a oportunity for the adapter to spin on the hub if not checked for tightness from time to time. I have not had any issue thus far. The adapter sure keeps everything nice and true. I have also built a couple motored bikes with rigid fork front ends and they work out just fine.

slowriderz,

That's good to know re: the sprocket adaptor.

Does anyone know what 200cc 4stroke is used for the racer model?

Hi Guys,
Just stumbled into this thread. Thanks for all the nice comments! Here is one of my latest builds. This is a Sportsman Flyer 200 with clear powder coat so you can see the vintage style lugged and brazed construction. Engine is a 200cc Honda GX200 with all the kart racing go fast goodies. It has 15 hp and cruises comfortably at 45-50 mph. It will do 60 with current gearing. I am currently building 20 of these and have 4 others that will be pushing 22 hp and then a one-off shifter bike with three speed tranny.
Thanks,
Pat

That thing is just gorgeous...

I'm rethinking my bike build plans as we speak. What kind of fuel economy does such a beast return? Do you know, offhand, what the street-legal situation is in NJ? Or, can you recommend a good method to find out?

PS- your stuff does all look very nice

short answer, no not legal in NJ. the long answer is on the NJMV website - moped. for example, the frame has to be dot certified and have a vin number

I wonder what would happen if I just did some shadiness. Cops are often pretty misinformed about pretty much everything. I knew a kid who would always buy ct70s and various age-old small displacement motorbikes, and he'd register them under some old puch maxi title he had from a long-dead moped.(He was 16 at the time) Cops would pull him over, tell him how much they liked his Yamaha or whatever, and hand him back the registration that said "puch maxi" on it. No ticket, no nothing.

I wonder how hard it would be to convince the typical cop that the thing was a "puch maxi". Of course, that'd be an expensive mistake if i'm wrong...
