This is a cool project that I saw online a couple of years ago. It looked like fun and potentially a project I could handle so when a free 24" mountain bike came up around the beginning of this build the die was set. Here's the starting point. The shop inspector approves.
After disassembly I cut the swing arm off and broke out the fab tools.
Added some scrap tubing to stretch the swing arm a very precise amount of... well, it's stretched.
The name of the build came about as that song was inexplicably playing on repeat in my head while I was welding the frame.
I used the fork from a department store 26" mountain cruiser so I could have a little bigger front wheel. I had a rusty old piece of pipe that looked about the right length so I lopped it in half and welded into the forks for the perfect extension.
Looks ok. This might actually work!
The mock-up looks really good.
This design uses gas struts as the mechanism to convert the bike between a chopper and a tall bike. Got some basic struts from the jungle website and fabbed up some attachment points.
A lick of paint and some final assembly and it's a bike again with a lot of extra fun built in!
