Stripping chrome

Is there a house hold chemical that will strip chrome? Not is the mood to grind the whole part.

Will be painting the the part afterwards.

Sandpaper usually scuffs chrome up well enuff for paint. I Dont really know a safe chemical it unplate chrome.

I've had good luck with bead blasting chrome to paint over.

If it is rusty sometimes the rust removal solutions will start to lift it. You may want to take a look at the do it yourself chrome kits and webpages as removing the old chrome is part of the process. Blasting does work to rough it up and doesn't involve any nasty chemicals...

I need to weld on the sprocket and just figured it would be easier to strip it than grind the whole thing.
