there is nothing worse that stripping 50+years of paint off of a bike frame! i see alot of people using stripper to take it off, messy! on my bikes, i have started taking them to my local autoparts store that has a machine shop where they rebuild motors. they have a "hot" tank that they clean their engine blocks in and they do my frames also. i tell you what, for $10-$15bucks a frame, it is not worth the trouble to attempt your self! :D so you may want to research your town to see if you have a shop that would be willing to do this for you. it takes it down to metal, may have just a little sanding to do in the corners.

Cool thanks for the tip man, i never thought about that. My local Napa has a shop in the back that does machine work, i think i will ask. Sounds alot better than my wire wheel.

I was just going to say that I cleaned one up today in about 15 minutes with a wire wheel in an angle grinder.

i'm with you bro, thats what i use.

i use a wirewheel for smaller parts, but they dont get into smaller places. for a frame i say the 25 bucks or less for media blasting is worth EVERY penny !! if i paint anything i take it to bare metal first and i use auto body paint and clear, i've learned that it is worth the extra time and money to do it right the first time.

Thanks for the tip!

just incase you cant find somebody in your area to hot tank it for ya... Easy off oven cleaner, spray it on, let it soak for 5 or 10 minutes and powerwash the paint away. Works pretty well.
