I want say there names but if you live in my area you know who they are. I called up the bike repair shop closest to me to get my wheels trued up he tells me to bring them over an he'll see what he can do so I load up my wheels drive 39 miles only for him to tell me me doesn't work on wheels but he can order me a set for around 100 bucks. What gives of he would've told me that I wouldn't have drove over heck I can order wheels chaeper than that an if I had wanted new wheels thats what I would've asked him for I guess honesty is just gone

If you come to Savannah, go to Star Bike Shop!!

Yup it sucked all the bikes he had in his shop was roadies an a few fixed had one with a price tag of $1,600.00 I knew I was in the wrong place when I saw that :(

Who ever heard of a bike shop that only works on the top half of a bike?????????
That's like going to a auto mechanic and them telling you they don't work on the engine part.

I was as polite as I could be manely because my 9 year old son was with me I would've been a repeat customer with all the projects I've got

Some shops are just like that. A while back I asked a guy at a shop how much he would charge to install a 3 speed on one of my bikes, he told me I needed a whole new wheel. I told him that if I wanted a new wheel I would have asked for one.

Sucks that you had to drive that far. I ended up purchasing a truing stand and learning more and more on it.

How hard is it a truing stand isn't that exspensive I actualy laced thes up it took a few tries but got them pretty close to true but close only count in horse shoes an hand grenades lol an I have several hubs an hoops I would love to fix up

I used to sell very high end bikes (about a hundred years ago) and there is no way a quick truing would have walked out my door. If it only took me a minute I may not have even charged just to build that customer relation. That's just plain laziness.

When I used to sell auto parts, one of our competitors used a technique called "Come On Down."

No matter what the customer called for, they would tell them they would have it. Then they would either try to up-sell them to something more expensive, or they would sell them a similar part while ordering the correct part figuring that they would have the customers money and by the time the customer found out the part was wrong, they would either have the part or tell them that the part was "on order" and will be in the next day or two.

Sounds like this guy was trying to up-sell you.

its not even that bad an I have plenty of nipple left I'm just haven a hard time getting them strait I get 1 end good an roll it an all I've done is move it

I'm new with the old time bikes, but I can tell you that if a a MTN or road rim was physcially bent, there was nothing I could do to true that out. But I would be up front with the customer and ask if they wanted to spend the money to attempt it, or just use that money towards a new wheel.

One of my first shops' owners came up with a "come on down" technique. He had sold Specialized in the past, but they cut him off for lack of payment. But he would still advertise Specialized at really low sale prices to get people in the door. Then we had to explain to them we didn't have any more specialized, but we do have Iron Horse, which is better... blah blah blah... When he turned that corner it was time for me to go. I had no interest in being a used car salesman.

People like that just drive me nuts its like the products they sell aren't good enough to bring people in so they use trickery to shove that crap down your thoat but he got fooled as soon as he told me he didn't do wheel work I started out the door

I am by no means an expert, but I am really glad I purchased the park stand. I have since built up a few wheels and trued a few of my other wheels.
