Sturmey-Archer Cables and pulleys

So I just got a new sturmey archer cable that I want to put on a Schwinn Breeze 3 speed, and it has this little pulley thing... And my cable is completely enclosed. What gives? I'm clueless...

the sheathing/cable will move when shifted, the pulley keeps it out of the way and keeps from cutting into the sheathing.

I must be dense... The covering I'm referring to is like a standard multi-speed cable covering... I'd have to cut it off to make the cable fit in the little pulley thing... I dunno... Know of any good pictures i could look at?

you shouldnt have to cut the sheathing, it should be able to squeeze into the groove fully sheathed. i guess you could do it either way really, everything i've had has always been sheathed all the way to the dropouts but the first couple of pics show bare cable.
