Subtle changes

I liked most everything about my Chief when I got it except (1) the cheesy kickstand that came on it, and (2) the also cheesy chrome front sprocket.

I immediately swapped the steel kickstand for an aluminum one I had laying around. Solved that issue.

So that left the sprocket to deal with. I did a Fleabay search and found someone selling black sprockets for a reasonable price so I bought one. I got busy and put it on today.

Here's a before shot with the chrome sprocket on it ...

And here's a shot of it with the new one on it .....

A small change ... but I think it made a big difference in the overall look.

If I thought I could do a good job and the paint would stick, I would be tempted to paint the alloy rims black too.

I guess that's a project for another day ....

Those rims are screaming to be painted baby blue. JMHO Look around here till you find some rim painting tutorials and have at it. It's really not that bad, and todays paints will stick to anything. The chainring looks waaayyy better.

My other thought is to switch from whitewalls to blackwalls - which might then actually set off the alloy rims and make them look pretty good.

Baby blue rims sounds good too, though. I need to keep that in mind, since a little blue might really set off the black.

How about one of the black walled Electra tires with the red stripe? I think Retro Runner is one model.

Bontrager Hanks also come in that style, they were stock on the Trek Rail.

62, redline tires may look good on it.

They are definately retro - since I put a set of those on my 66 Chevelle SS 396 back when the car was only a year old!

Okay, I made another subtle change - only this time to my wife's Columbia Clipper.

It was fenderless and white with a mustard yellow fork on it.

I took the set of fenders off of the Roland cruiser I bought this weekend and painted both them and the fork black and I just got it back together.

Check out the difference ...

Before ..

And now .. (oh yeah, the basket and horn are recent additions too).

I'm debating on whether to remove the yellow Columbia sticker. In some ways it's nice because it adds a little color to the bike. We'll see.

Looks great...and before I read your last note I was about to tell you to remove the sticker...ha ha!

Now all you need to do is paint the rims pink!
