Oh yea. How could I forget some of those cars had crazy metal flake with huge gold leaf names down the side.

Added scoop and pipes today...

Pipes are just old recycled exhaust pipe bends....

Bracket to hold scoop is part of old chest freezer hinge....

Scoop bolted on with recycled stainless steel roofing screws...

For awhile I wasn't sure how to attach the scoop. I decided not to cut the top tube and slotted the champagne bucket scoop instead.

Got frame painted today. Wanted a cool old rod color and had a can of touch up paint I believe from a 1973 Pontiac my dad used to have.

Don't know the name of the color as the sticker has faded away.

I had all these models back in the day....a rat rodder before my time!

This is really starting to take on that "gasser" look! What if you welded in a sheet of steel in the front triangle of the frame, then cut some metal parts in half and welded the halves on to the sheet to simulate an engine? Or...use the sheet as a body side panel, paint it that cool green color too, and add some gasser graphics!

Yes! Actually I wanted to avoid cutting the top tube so I slit the "bucket" on the bottom. Still intend to improve cosmetics in that area...

Ape hanger bars (who knows how old they are) have been a problem to keep tight in the gooseneck. The knurl is pretty well worn, so I put a few dabs of weld every 90 deg. on the knurl, ground it down till it fit in the gooseneck and tightened. Seems to be working now!

I think the gassers call that "rumble" Falstaff...
