How do I clean minor surface rust off of paint :?: I'm trying to clean a bike up for my Dad for Christmas :) I want it to look brandy new
Thank's
Nick :D

Try some polishing compound, a damp rag, and a soft touch. Test on an inconspicious area first. I have used this on some painted wheels. While it gets most of the rust off, you have to find the balance between rust removal and paint removal. Work slowly until you get the feel for it. Good luck!

Try vinegar. Spray it on and let it sit a while. It shouldn't hurt the paint, and it should clean the rust off. It takes a little bit to work though.

Well it depends, In my last project I had a lot of surface rust on some chrome pieces. I just sanded it and it went right away. Then I finished it up with some Turtle Chrome Polish, which has rust remover in it. For the frame and other non-chrome pieces I just sanded it away and carried on with paint.
