If the fenders and chainguard are original I'd say that is a C model. I like that straight lower bar. B607

i need to study up on my schwinn 'models', all i know is i've been wanting one with the straight downtube! if the straight downtube and straight middle bar make this a 'c', what is the model with the straight downtube and curved middle bar?

You're talking about a '39 DX. That's the first and only year of the straight down tube. After that, they were all curved. Prewar C models were pretty common and there were a bunch of different models of them. B607

oh, ok. now i know a little more than i did yesterday :D the straight downtube 39 dx used the truss style fork w/the longer axle to crown length than the 40-41 with the 'ashtabula' looking fork?

Sweet find.......
Gutsy move but potential for for high reward.
Let me know if it is in my part of the world, Gladly help you get it packed/shipped.

Not trying to be a party pooper, but that doesn't exactly look "Schwinn" from those pics...I am hoping you saw other ones before the purchase. I'm not sure about that neck, those fenders look suspicious, and there is something fishy about a crank that clean with wheels that rusty. Also, FYI.... 1936 straight bar Motorbike/autocycle/C-models had the straight down tube, straight bottom bar and curved seat stays (not "double diamond").... I can shoot pics of my frame if you want.

On a positive note, that seat is worth about $100 right there, so hopefully it will make you happy! my guess...the frame is a prewar Columbia with a bunch of stuff added. Either way, a fun find if the price is right. I hope I am wrong, by the way.

yeah, who knows what it will be, it will be fun to find out :D i have other photos- bb welds look schwinn. dropouts look schwinn, truss fork looks schwinn. chainguard, sweetheart sprocket, planes & trains badge, grips look schwinn......looks like the crank and hubs have been shot w/silver spray paint. something looks weird about that front fender- i was thinking maybe it was a rear mounted up front (?). i may not even have the fenders and wheels shipped- less freight, easier packing!

E-mail me and i'll send you some pictures of my 36 Motorbike and 36 Model C Schwinns hemiramtruck@ yahoo.com

honestly the rear stays do look very prewar schwinn(cant tell from the pictures about how the drop outs are so im not 100% but the part i can see is exactly like my b10 and camelback)...hope it gets to you soon

The good, the bad, and the ugly

after a few mixups coordinating the ups pickup the bike finally arrived.

the good:

the frame is pretty straight, (forgot to photograph the nice straight struts). some other useful parts, cool stem with a good quill, nice headbadge!

the bad:
DSC01535.jpg

steerer tube is bent, legs are dented, don't know if it's even the right fork- luckily i wasn't going to use it anyway.

the ugly:

box o' crusty leftovers.

hit a couple spots w/aircraft remover looking for original paint/graphics but i guess it has already been stripped before. just remnants (cobalt blue?) in the s/n letters and a spot in the bb shell. anyway, should klunkerize nicely, i've been wanting a straight downtube model :)

Sweet!!!!
Nice score......
What are you thinking.......
