Tank light rebuild from a mess...

Well, just picked up an early 60's ladies Wester Flyer for my GF yesterday. Bike is in pretty nice shape. Link here- viewtopic.php?f=62&t=53270&p=509023#p509023
Seems like bearings are a little tight & needs tires. I will disassemble I see what I find. Of course the first thing she wants fixed is the tank light. I took it apart to find this lovely mess...

Now, should I try to salvage as much as I can & attempt to redo the repairs some one apparently used a beer can for? Or should I try to adapt a battery holder from say Radio Shack? The original holder is rusted quite bad, almost paper thin in some spots.

You got the right idea, it's not like any one will see it. Go to the shack and hook it up!

Yeah, trying to salvage that and make it work would be pure frustration, in my experience.
