Hello from Croatia!
Debutant on RRBO 10, entered RRBO 11 and than...silence; plenty builds and restorations but didn't post any of them on forum.
Few days ago I remembered that I wasn't online for a long time (few years, ashamed to say), so I went for a check-up; when I saw there's a build off going on, I felt the urge to enter.
After a minute or two I remembered I had a bike in storage that was almost perfect for this category, so I present to you.... LUXUS, West Deutschland answer to Raleigh Chopper (in Germany known as Bonanza-rad).

Is it ratty enough, as it sits?

From the thread title you can assume where I'm going with this one; some things are gonna be new, some old, some recycled...but all in all budget build from current stock.

That looks like a great frame to start with. I am looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Awesome bike! Are you planning to do a resto mod or leave it crusty? Either way it's going to be super cool!

I'll have to do a restomod; frame has few cracks that I'll have to repair and maybe make some structural reinforcements, so I'll sandblast it to see how far has it gone.

Nothing too radical, but I'll try to make everybody see where I got the inspiration for this bike.

Well, it's time for an update; maybe it's not the greatest idea to move to another house during the build off, but I'll know better next time.

I torn the bike to bits, because I wanted to do some restomod, and I sent the frame to sandblasting.
All that happened more than a month ago, but as I said I moved in the meantime so project was put aside until yesterday (hence the rust marks on the sandblasted frame).
Now it looks like this:

Sandblasting uncovered some problems:

Fork cracked above dropouts, so I tried to weld it, but unfortunatelly metal is coroded from the inside (see pics in first post), and after two hours of trying i had to give up because holes kept getting bigger as welder shot through the rusted metal no matter how low voltage I aplied to it. It's mostly because I'm unexperienced welder, but these forks are done (even if I managed to cover up the holes, structural integrity of metal is unexisting, so it's not safe to use them).

As it's pretty late in the build off, I'm not sure I'll manage to get another pair of forks for this bike so I'm thinking about pulling the plug on this one.
I'll try to source something to complete this but for now I don't have forks that will blend in my vision of the bike and I don't want to make something just to complete the build.


On the other hand, I'll have to look closely on the builds in the off road category, because I maybe have something for a late late entry.
