Yeah, my love for kickstand plates are what inspired this frame, so long ago. What has always confused me though is that some manufacturers--many, really-- chose to put the plate on the top side of the stays (as we see in @SILVERKINGPC 's Hawthorne above) which almost defeats the purpose. The pimp move is to put the plate under the stays, so the hardware doesn't smoosh the stays.

I have used "quick steel" a one part concoction similar to JB weld. It works well...used it to reshape a beat up boat prop recently..quit laughing it worked! :D

Not generally a fan of kickstands, but always wondered why the plates weren't made so they "Formed" around the stays' round shape. So many of the old frames have the crushed chain-stays from the plate being tightened down too much.

It's my understanding that the "plate" is a piece of the frame with a hole so you can bolt a kickstand directly to the frame; no squishing if it's on the bottom of the stays. The "sandwich" hardware is the stuff that damages the stays. Pletscher makes upperer hardware that is rounded, to be more gentle to the stays. Making all of it round is problematic, b/c different bikes will have different ODs for the stays, and different widths between the stays.... Having a well-designed integral -plate is very helpful.

Here's a pic of the Pletscher "f8"deluxe hardware:

So, has anyone here ever made a new kickstand totally from JB Weld? :39:
I have not (yet!) but one time "when I was broke" - I used fine copper wire and jb weld to mend my glasses after the frame broke in two - got me by for about 6 months till I could come up with the dough for new ones.:p
