Thanks man. I got real burnt out in the middle with everything else going on and didn't want to mess with it. I really want to finish it and ride it now.
I found a sprocket from a 80's huffy mtb that I had drilled the rivets out of and separated. It doesn't look too bad with the goofy plastic guard and 2nd chaining removed. I've mated it up with an old schwinn crank.
I was able to piece this seat back together with hardware I had laying around. It has the perfect vibe for this bike. As far as functionality goes, I'm just lacking some sort of brake. That's going to take a bit of brainstorming to figure out.
I stuck an old badge on there, it beaks up the big head tube a bit. Since these wheels have a freewheel it looks like I'm stuck with a cable operated brake for now. I don't really like the look, but I need some sort of brake. I was also going to swap the stem for a better looking drop stem, but the existing stem puts the bars in exactly the right place. Function over form I guess.
I threw a brake on there and went for a 2 mile shakedown right tonight. I'm going to call it "done". It's heavy, over-geared, and it makes a few little clicks and grinds, basically it rides just like a 1920's bike, mission accomplished.
