This muriatic acid is having a heck of a time with the decals, so I have to manually peel them off. And the wood grain brought the chrome underneath up with it! Nice and smooth. Another soak to get off the bits. Man, that’ll be about a week in the acid!!

I got the disc system in today. So tested the width in the frame, it’s just slightly wider than the original 5-speed hub.

So broke out my spreading tool. Works great on bikes and first dates!

Now it fits in the dropouts fine.

But this caliper system was designed for bigger bikes with more clearance inside the stays.

So I’m going to have to figure a way if crimping the inside without screwing up the outside. @Pondo how did that crimping tool work? I may have to make one.

The final bath did the trick. It’s completely clear of all chrome and adhesive. Damage to the plastic is revealed, so I am going to do a lot of “body work” to correct that as best I can. My goal is to send a near perfect example to @JNOACK so we can create a mold and reproduce these for the muscle bike community. Then it’ll get new chrome.

I’m throwing in the towel with this front fender. It’s just too far gone for me to bring back to the show level I’m going to bring this bike up to. Now I’m on the hunt for one.

I made one in the past out of an old pair of vice grips. I'm not sure where I posted it on here but I did a quick google search and found several methods.
