Build Thread of all the Fun
---------------------------------------------
I started with this 21 speed Trek 930
Necessity is called the mother of invention. I had this Trash Day Eve find in my shed and was thinking of scrapping it. Then I saw the bare frame on ebay for over $250!! Having never entered a build off I thought, "Why not?" My old knees are shot and the aluminum chain rings on this bike were shot too. So, I shimmed a single cog and added a steel 34T chain wheel.
This set up in the next picture is the heart of the build. Those anodized spacers on the single rear cog, the idler and the single chain ring make for a truly low, bulldog crawler. I still have enough gear to get from canal to canal.
Mods include:
- 7 speed wheel converted to single speed.
- Custom single chain ring crank set.
- Spring loaded tensioner.
- All aluminum and steel skewers (ditched plastic housed nuts).
- All fresh cable housings and cables.
- New custom locking grips.
- Kenda X-Rad rubber.
- Selle saddle.
- BMX bars for vertical riding position.
- Fabric bottle cage off road tool bag and kit.
- Assorted red anodized bling.
- Large platform heavy duty Mtn. bike pedals.
- Bulldog mascot.
The dual nature of the bike illustrated. Pavement on left, canal bank on right.
It really is a bulldog of a bike. Thanks for looking.
