Started transforming the rear wheel today. Purchased it this summer and have been using it on another bike with a single freewheel. Wanted to put more gears on it.
On one side is a thread for a disc brake, but it was completely threaded.
Eventually was able to get the flange on, but chewed the thread on that..
It just spins,so why can't I double flange it.
I have a spare one that is the same 44mm as the first. The second is a 48mm that i just screwed on to check if this would work. So far so good. Will probably need longer allen bolts to go into both and hold the disk in place.
So now for the gear side. I tried a 7 speed, but was to tight. A 6 gear and a 5 work well.
But first I had to get the single off. Cold and getting nowhere. I just grinded the dam thing off.
Nothing worst than having alloy threads.
Whats left of a brand new freewheel, purchased in late Aug.
Damaged the thread a little, but still able to use it.
I found this old 5 gear sun race freewheel. It was on a 27" rim,one tap and off it came. The hub and spokes are in excellent condition for a 50's wheel. The only part they came easy today.
Still need to clean it up. But happy with this old find.
Its on.
Only had to widen the rear stays 1 cm.
Put some balloon tires on and I have excellent space, but the thing is I want to mount on 3" tires. So I might have to enlarge the rear 1-2 cm more. Also played around with a chainset. Want a single speed in the front 32T-34T.
yesterday I played with the forks, and decided to do a swap over. Same forks different light mount. Wont stick so far out in front. About 1" longer than the other ones.
Also went to the gun range,to look for some 12 gauge shells. Have a idea for them.
Pic tomorrow.
