My father, veteran of WW2 and the Korean conflict and strong contender for world's best dad, was laid to rest today. He was ready to go and he went. The minister was a bit of a concordant scripturalist, (long-winded cross references connecting Jesus and resurrection interspersed with commentary) which my dad would have probably found annoying, but would have gladly sat through for the love of his family, most of whom are actual Christians. My brother gave this eulogy- http://the-gneech.livejournal.com/1905435.html

My condolences on your loss...Even if he was ready to go it is always hard to deal with the passing of a loved one.
Interesting to hear your take on the preacher, I had exactly the same experience at my fathers funeral.

Sorry to hear about your loss...just prayed for you and your family during this time of grieving.

im sorry to hear about your loss. sounds like he was a cool guy and lived a full life. im not good with words in a situation like this, but you have my condolences.

Deorman, although I've never met you and probably neither has most of the others who are praying for you, it still pained me to read your thread. I immediately shared in your anguish and wished I could spare you of it. I hope the power of prayer will reach you and provide you strength and comfort. You're now a member of a unique club; one that no member wants to be in. As the blur of the past week clears and the finality of the event begins to sink in over the next few months please lean on us for support.

Kuddos to your brother for his eulogy, which I did read. I very recently did the same thing: eulogized my mom before laying her to rest with my dad at Arlington National Cemetary. It was one of the hardest things in my life to do but one of the most rewarding once done.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to you and your family.
Peace,
Greg
