In the shower I just had an idea for another future build off:

✌️ Double Feature/Two is a pair/Double Trouble

👉 Building up two matching bikes (male/female, adult/kid, twins,...)

Happy Big Brother GIF by YUNGBLUD
Just to give an idea (or two) some pics I found in the interwebs:

I think you get the idea...

Devils advocate……

In the current format we have many that can’t finish in the timeframe. Now we’d be doing 2 bikes simultaneously?

Oh for sure. Also not easy to find matching his and hers frames.

This is all just for fun. I say if some builders need more time, let’s increase the time. The more builders the better.

The majority of builders do finish there bikes in time the ones that don't finish generaly start build for a month then abandon the project. There's rare a case where someone is just shy of a finish more honestly more time would just add more time to be at the bottom of the pile.

I think the deadline is what kind of evens the playing field.
The time issue that was brought up was the time didn't work for what @CRASH does (witch he does extremely well) but those types of builds in short periods of time are extremely difficult (I'm usually surprised that he gets as much done as he does) that being said he is building show bikes as far as I understand for customers just chooses to participate in our build off. (Witch we appreciate).

I agree with this largely. Where I run into a time crunch is when I do more than one build or if I’m trying to paint a bike. But I work outside so the weather is frequently a limiting factor. I have found myself making compromises to the build plan to finish in time for the judging. That’s usually the case actually.

That being said, I'm currently attempting to do a Crash style build as he and his bikes have been such an inspiration to me. He does manage to do some huge builds for this, it’s really amazing. It’s a very laborious, time consuming build and if I weren’t on vacation right now (stay-cation) I would likely not finish in time.

I’m cool with the consensus on this, I’ll get better (hopefully) and work with what I’ve got.

That's where the fun is you challenge yourself. I've started building stuff in the past and if it's not challenging I walk away.

Weather is always a limitation for someone. We’re global around here. Someone’s summer is someone’s winter. Some winters are just not feasible to build much less paint geographically speaking

That’s true. I just mentioned it as being my usual limiting factor, not to shift the time or anything. I’ll be able to work inside eventually.

Those limitations are what make challenging painting here in Canada in the winter is impossible and fall we have about a month so many times I've just figured something else out.

Ok let’s try this………

If instead of 3 BO per year with 2 classes we did 2 per year with 3 classes?? What would the ideal schedule look like?

Between the classic RRBBO, MBBO, ORBO, and other ideas we have plenty of combinations. It seems the dates and timelines are the challenge for some

That’s an interesting idea I hadn’t considered. There could be time off for the holidays and summer vacations. 👍

Taking my own builds out of it, there have been intricate detailed builds in the past where they had roughly 4 months (I believe). I’m a believer of quality over quantity. I tend to favor bikes that took a fair amount of craftsmanship and engineering to complete. I believe longer contests lend to that type of building. So I am personally in favor of a 4 or 5 months build schedule with a month or two off in between.

I don’t see 5 months working. Even with 3 we have people start all hot and heavy and then disappear until the week or weeks leading up to close. For the majority I think that’s just too long to maintain engagement much less provide meaningful updates and progress

4 months? Totally feasible

I'm dragging my feet with three months...
Rarely do I have a custom paint. So that's less time.
Seriously Rat builds should bang out quickly and full on custom paint trailer queens will take time.
It's the nature of the beast so some thought as to changing the time frames could take the type of builds into consideration.
Maybe match classes to the time frames. 3 classes taking longer could be...
The Big Build Off unlimited class
MBBO
Full Restorations?
I could see these three taking longer, especially with pro paint.

But with only three BO's per year, 1 with 4 months, 1 with 3 months, then 1 needs to be a quick 2 month build off, to preserve the month off in between each.
I'd suggest "Full on Rats no rules" (forcing some down and dirty creativity) and STBO for the 2 month build offs. That would leave the Off Road BO and ??? for the 3 month build off. Of course we could stagger build offs with some overlapping dates, but that starts getting confusing...

The other deciding factor is what actual classes do we really want?
Classic Big Build off
Muscle Bikes (can have subclasses as well)
Off Road (can have subclasses here too)
Skinny Tire
Step Thru
Unlimited Rat
Freakbikes?
Lowriders?
The list could go on....

After all that is said, I like the format we have now. A few rotating classes with time limits is better for a COMPETITION BUILD OFF...
