Not long ago I received word that some new neighbors had taken it upon themselves to clean up the old neighborhood. They started with back yards first, and liberated a number of items, most likely for metal recycling purposes. I was told that it was likely that any bicycles or bicycle parts I had stored were carried off, and although I hadn't messed with this stuff in years I was pretty bummed out. I went to take a look and was pleasantly surprised to find my stuff still sitting untouched. Today I went and retrieved some of the stuff and brought it home so I could store it securely. This was probably my favorite bicycle growing up, and is still one of my favorite bikes. It's a Wards Silver-Fox, from around 1975 or 76. This one has been updated with a Raleigh console shifter and a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub. It's a nice addition considering the significant weight of this bike.
I seem to recall trading a neighborhood kid for a huffy bmx and some trading cards. Not long after getting it I traded it for a silver and blue Schwinn Trasher, but the kids parents didn't approve so we traded back. Unfortunately the next day that kids Schwinn fell off the car and was run over. I quickly outgrew the Silver Fox so remained basically unchanged. The ODI mushroom grips have of course turned to slime and the seat cover has seen better days, but overall it's not bad off. It was only recently that I ID'd the bike, before that most people I talked to seemed to think I was crazy for implying that I had a full suspension bike from the 70's.
