Got the 'new' crank, chainring and BB from whitefiretiger yesterday. To test the chain line,I polished the crank, chainring, spacer and race (I'll do the rest for final assembly)

Looks good, got plenty of clearance with the tire, if more is needed, I'll flip the rear cog.

Set the chainguard in place to check for clearance, all good there.

New chainring is 44t, old one was a 48, should make for easy cruising and make 'wheelies' easy too. Pretty, ain't it?

Also got all the 'fixins' for my shifter. Trying to stay all 'Shimano' with a Nexus grip shifter, a Shimano brake arm (shift lever), a 34.9 mm seatpost clamp and a couple of PVC caps to 'finish it off'

Pulled the rubber grip off and the clamp slid right on.

Rotated it to 4th gear, which is TDC.

Next, I need to notch out the brake arm (I'll cut out the shaded part)

I'll need to 'tweak' the arm, it's already offset, but will need more bend to it. It will shorten it Wish me luck....

This is the last design element to work out.

Hopefully more progress tomorrow.....

I played around with the shifter today. I'm using BigCam's method for inspiration, but mine looks like it will be mounted on top of the twin bars, so there's a little more 'engineering that needs to be done.....

I've been working on the fabrication. Attaching a gripshift to the twin top tubes has been a challenge, but doable.
My problem is, it was looking kind of DIY and 'doodad-ey'. But, I now have this unit coming from ozzynut.

First, it looks a LOT better than what I was 'Tankensteining' together, second I should be able to modify it to catch two more gears. As a bonus, a cable routing will be much more direct to the hub since the out from the shifter and the in to the Nexus are on the same side.

Until then, it's gonna gather dust while I assemble my other project.

Have a great weekend all!

Glad you picked that one up. These work great with Nexus 7 hubs. This is the same shifter that I used for Flexy.

That is the same problem I'm having everything looks homemade looking for a shifter myself that is a great looking one that you have glad you got it I bet it makes things a lot better .

Yeah there's a balance between eclectic art and hacked.
Take your time bro, we still got most of 3 months.
I'm on my second shifter idea so far and still may not use it...

Carl.

really hoping you finish the one you started!! but like the new one 2

The shifter is at an acceptable state, so, at this point it's a 'go'. If during assembly there's issues, I may have to rethink. In other progress, scored a set of NOS rat traps from Dale Alan and JUST picked up a Fatti-O whitewall from my Electra dealers 'take off' pile for $20!

So, after a little yardwork, gonna tear it down and start prepping the frame.

My biggest concern at this point is time, work is REALLY taking a lot of my time right now and training my daughter for tennis team tryouts in January.....
