Time for my next build!

Another Fatbike - Full Suspension - Full Custom!

Ill use most of the parts from the Grey Beast I just finished because I want to tweak that frame some, and build it with narrower rims. The goal is a 4" travel, full suspension, fat bike that will take the abuse of serious trails, and look good doing it. It will be the little brother of my red full suspension beast. I will also have to build another fork...

The Goal Weight is 40lbs.

Here is the frame I am starting with. I am going to search for the longest spindle bottom bracket I can find. I think a 140mm will work. I am going to ditch the rear triangle, and remake it in 3/4" steel tubing. I will keep the basic design. The frame weight 6.4 pounds as it is.

Its a prototype Intense M1 frame. Its from '95 and its the only one they made. I won't modify it at all, so at any time I can go back to how it is.

Here are a couple random parts I have. The crown from my second fork attempt, and an RST shock. It just so happens to be that the shock fits inside the steerer tube. I hope to make a fork from these parts, but I have no idea how at this point.

I will update this thread as I go along...

How much do you really notice the full suspension on your beast? Don't the tires eat most of the dampering already ? I'd toy with the idea for a front suspension fat bike, but I dislike rear suspensions on bikes myself.

I still find your builds cool man I don't have the machinery to do what you can do.

I notice it a TON, but I ride pretty hard off road trails. I hit 45mpg on a fast downhill yesterday on the red beast. It has a lockout for the rear, and I never use it.

Plus its a lot more comfortable for regular riding. My grey bike feels really stiff and rough compared to the red one.

Love your builds!
Here in sunny florida, a 3 speed w/semi knobs makes a fine mtb, glad you get to suspend your rides and actually need 21 speeds!

Thanks Mike!

Here is a short video of this bike last time it was built up. One of our local trails. Its going to be amazing having this bike as a fatty!

First off I got this fork from Aliexpress. 120mm travel, straight steerer tube. 6.8 pounds.

The hard park is going to be getting ebough room for a 4 inch tire on a 100mm rim. I am using a standard 68X127.5 bottom bracket with some Alivio crank arms. This leaves me with 6.75 inches between the arms. With a tire that measures close to 4.5 inches wide, this doesn't leave much room for chain stays. So I am using 1/2x1" rectangle tubing.

Here are the stays so far:

Ill post more as it progresses.....

Got a bit of work done on the chain stays last night. They are going to have several bends in them so that they can clear the narrow cranks, and still have room for a 203mm rotor and 190mm rear spacing. I left them long until i can figure out rear travel, and dropouts.

Im taking this build a little slow, and stoping after each smaller project is done. That way I can think and rethink each step, and not rush thru it. Next step is minor assembly to see if everything clears.

The spindle is only 127.5. I think the chain line will be good, but I'm not 100% sure. I got a bunch more done lasts night, but won't be able to post pics until later...
