looking forward to it. I keep wondering if I should have done a fat bike instead of my Kona hei-hei 29er. I pretty much just ride with the kids now. Maybe I can convert my Kona??

Ya, it's relativly short. Hopefully the shortness mixed with the 66 degree head angle will make up for the high bottom bracket.

Got the bike mostly done last night.

SO, what makes this bike special apart from looking cool? It uses a standard MTB crank and bottom bracket! The BB is a 68x127.5, it has a single front ring, in the outer position on the crank.

Specs:

46 lbs as it sits. Probably could get it alot closer to 40 if I really tried.
67 degree head angle
BB to rear axle is 19-1/4"
6" rear travel
wheelbase 45-3/8
Bottom Bracket height 16-5/8

Clearly the BB is really too tall. I may make another rear shock mount to lower the BB and slacken the head angle to 65 degrees. This will reduce the rear travel, but may make the bike alot better to ride due to the lower center of gravity.

I still need to dial in the rear derailer, and put a different cassette on it. This old XT derailed doesn't like the 42t cog. I also need to come up with a better chain guide, and find the remote parts so I can hook the front shifter up to the dropper post.

Since you are making your own frames...you could make an offset like Surly to allow running standard BB's

Ya, thats true. But this BB is a standard square taper that can be had for about $14 online.

I took this bike for about an 8 mile ride today on mostly single track. It rides OK, but not great. Its too tall, and it feels like the head angle is too steep. So the plan is to make another rear end that will lower the bottom bracket a couple inches. This will also slacken the front end.
