I'm advertising to sell my motorized bike, got it running well, everything buttoned up tight. Riding it daily till it sells to work out any kinks for the potential buyer.

I was about a mile from the house, went over some railroad tracks and the seat went forward and the engine cut off. I just tightened the seat clamp yesterday, oh well. Looked at the engine wondering why it cut off. What happened?

At speed, this could have been disastrous, luckily I was also slowing down for a stop sign.

Time for a new frame... stupid Schwinn.

It could have been bad if you crashed, but also if you sold it and someone crashed on it could have bankrupted you.

Well I'm glad you didn't get hurt but that's why we shake down stuff right? Good Call!
Funny one Deorman, that would make Red Green proud
Good luck with the fix...

Yeah, I'm very glad of this. I had one guy interested yesterday, said he was 290 pounds...

I looked and I have 2 cromoly mountain bike frames, both 80s, one a Jamis, the other a Schwinn High Sierra. I'd like to use the Jamis, but it wouldn't accept the triple tree, which really makes the bike stable at speed since the tree plates have some built in rake. The High Sierra might be the deal, but I'm going to look around some more before jumping in. The other option is selling just the engine kit and letting someone else suffer the details.

For liability reasons alone, I think I would sell the engine kit alone.

X2 I'm glad it happened at a low speed and you didn't totally wipe out and get hurt. The biggest thing to remember is bicycles are NOT meant for those kind of speeds and when taken at those speeds part wear is greatly accelerated. Bearings start to go out, rims go out of true, vibration rattles every nut and bolt that holds it together, and it generally tears itself apart. I have built a few of these and I wouldn't dare put it on a lower end bike at all. Basically build the bike around the engine and make sure everything is up to the task. Also I always put a bit of cut inner tube under the mount on the engine to reduce vibration transfer and to also protect the frame from scratches and the clamp "Eating into the frame" I have never had one break like yours but I did have a rear wheel totally lock up at like 20MPH and I nearly wiped out.

The original Schwinn High Sierra bikes are much better than that recent dime store heap you posted. :|

You'll have to charge more.

The frame above is a pre-sell-out Schwinn, it WAS nice.

I'm just trying to get some dang money to work on my moped, nobody local wants my Klunker5 and now this thing goes and self destructs!

The place to sell the Klunker 5 is ebay.

I think the main problem is the interruption of frame flex in the front triangle. I could be wrong, but the safest place to put that might just be an old 40 lb. pile of American mild steel. Of course, you could just end up moving the failure point around. :? If you aren't going to use it, I'm on the sell it unmounted side. Make them sign a disclaimer.

Yikes! Was there any sort of rubber buffer between the engine and the frame tubing? I didn't know those engines could fit properly on smaller tubing without some sort of buffers as it seems as though the engine mounts are designed for larger, new-style beach cruiser-type tubing.

If you're not already a member you could sign up at motor bicycling.com or if a member already post the photos in a new thread there and ask for clues as to why it broke that way. Lot of experience with putting motors on bikes over there.
