Walked into Goodwill Yesterday and bought a Three Speed Shimano Coaster Girlie bike for $10. Went to Bike shop last nite and bought 36 spokes 10MM shorter, laced it this morning, and going riding now!

good deal. i didn't get quite as smokin' a deal, but i just did the same thing a couple weeks back to get the 3sp for my faux fixie.

makes me think of the bikes my sister had that i was liable to ride more than she did. seemed like a waste of money, but now i'm glad girls don't tear up their bikes like boys.

That's Cool, I wasn't sure it could be done. How did you determine what length spokes you would need ? I would cruise the old bike much more if I could figure out how to add the hub to the current Schwinn Hornet rims.

Any advice on duplicating the conversion, ?

I have had a couple S/A 3 speed hubs (older ones 55 and a 71) laced to a newer mtb rims 158 mm.. And a couple coaster brake hubs and they were 162 mm. IIRC correctly.

Well, if you found the identical Shimano 3SC hub, you'll need 36 spokes exactly 10MM shorter. Its worth the time and effort! Good luck on yours!!

The only damage you usually find on girls bikes is the rear fender near the reflector. That's from the boys following them and banging into the fender with their front tire. :p A lot of damage means it was a good looking girl. No damage means she was homely or it was moms bike. 8) Gary
