Finally got the itch to get going on my old Columbia.

I went to get some tires online and saw some that are 26 x 2.35 (old tires on this thing are 26 x 2.125). I'm pretty sure the fenders will accept the width but How much taller will these tires be?

thanks in advance.

I assume you are talking about the Scwhalbe Fat Franks/Big Apples. They have a tal round profile where as a cruiser tire is flat or squarish profile when looking at a cross section. It might depend on the width of the rim. Some guys here have used those tires but I don't recall with fenders.

Thanks for your help and yes they were Fat Franks I was looking at. If they are indeed as much taller as they are fatter then I'll stick with the proper size. I might get a more modern looking tread though, if I'm not going fatter. I like these:

Those Electra rr come stock on Townies, right? Wife has a Townie. nice bike. I bought two of the tires I posted a pic of. cheap from Amazon. 8.50 each. 9 shipping. They come in red and blue too. I'll pick up some tubes on the way home and wait for the tires to get there. Should be a 21 beer wait.

I've got Maxxis Hookworms on a mountain bike I converted into a commuter and I absolutely love them. They're 2.5" wide and have a rounded shape which is great for the higher speed cornering I might do on this bike since it has 21 gears, as opposed to how I might casually ride on a single speed cruiser. And the larger footprint of a hookworm is more forgiving of Cleveland's bumpy roads as well, but it's almost too tall to be a cruiser tire. I would relate the first time I rode on a pair of hookworms to the first time I rode in a 4 wheel drive truck, the difference in the perception of height was immediate. The Schwalbe brand and Fat Franks line have a lot of fans, you probably can't go wrong with them either. But anytime you exceed the OEM tire width, be sure to check the frame width and chain clearance to make sure they'll fit before laying out the cash for a new pair of tires.

I love the look of the hook worms. thanks for the review. I was considering them for another build but have gone in another direction. As soon as I get a frame I'll start a thread for that one.

I just got one specialized compound and a specialized rhythm, they looks fairly similar, but have small differences like max PSI, width, and tread height, they're awesome looking tires though, and should have little rolling resistance.
